This course will feature the Northern Tallgrass Prairie of Western Minnesota. The location is unique in that it is one of the largest intact native prairie tracts in Minnesota. The area includes Buffalo River State Park, Bluestem Scientific and Natural Area. We will learn about local geology, botany, wildlife, aquatics, ecology, interpretation and how to be a Minnesota Master Naturalist. We will spend time in the classroom and outdoors every day. Local field trips during class time will be a part of the experience. Sessions will be at the Regional Science Center, near Glyndon.
Participants need to bring their own lunch, as there is nowhere nearby to get food. Arrange your own lodging, but camping is available at Buffalo River State Park or hotels in Hawley or Fargo/Moorhead (15 miles).
All participants must attend all sessions and complete a small group capstone project during the week.
