Let’s explore the Tettegouche area. Birds are returning to the Northwoods from their wintering grounds, where are they headed? Who’s here now and what can we learn from them?
Birds flying through will number in the millions often returning to the same patch of trees they nested in last year. As they return most are in their adult mating plumage making it a perfect time to hone your id skills, or start your journey as a birder. Each week this spring we will be welcoming the birds back and tracking who has made it to our neck of the woods. Celebrating their migration journey.
Feel free to join any of the sessions or all of them! Each week we may likely visit similar spots, but not necessarily and as birds return we will likely see new species each week. Often early sessions will have more waterfowl and as we move later into the spring we will start to find our warbler friends returning.
We will start in Tettagouche State Park but will drive to multiple locations throughout the morning and hike short distances.
We will meet at the Tettaguche state park visitor center in the large vehicle parking lot, (to the left as you pull in). You do not need a state park pass to park at the visitor center. We will have a spotting scope and are able to provide a few binoculars if needed.
