ADV - Loon Research Tour

Loon Research Tour website

35507 Co Rd 66
Crosslake, MN 56442

*Pre-registration required via Eventbrite. This is an ongoing opportunity through the end of September. Research outings embark every Thursday from 8:30-11:30am.

Join the National Loon Center aboard our pontoon, “The StewardShip,” for on-water training for loon citizen science projects including LoonWatcher and eBird.

During the research program, we'll document loon territories and sightings across the Whitefish Chain! From the end of May through mid-August, we'll survey a different lake of the chain each week, documenting nesting success, chick hatching, band resights, and loon behavior.

At the end of August through September, the research tours will primarily visit Lower and Upper Whitefish Lakes to search for and take data on groups of loons rafting up before the fall migration.
