Summer is the best time to study nature in Minnesota, and Olmsted parks have a range of lands, plant communities, and waters that we will visit during this class. Besides a range of woodlands and restored prairie, Oxbow park has an excellent zoo containing many of the native animals of our area, so we not only see them, but also will hear about their lives and care. The extensive natural and planted prairies and woods at Chester Woods will allow us to see the effects of management and restoration. Field trips will take us to special areas to learn about the amazing and wide-ranging habitats in SE Minnesota.

Guest instructors will enlarge on the basic curriculum, allowing us to get deeper into selected topics: the special geology of SE MN, birds, aquatic systems, butterflies and other insects, prairie management and restoration and communications. Each day will be a mix of classroom and field time.

The capstone projects will be team projects that relate to the parks.

Camping is available at each park.
